Waqf ‘Ardhi refers to volunteering one’s time to serve the Jama’at for a limited period. The Waqf ‘Ardhi program was introduced by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih III (rh) in 1966 with the goal of preparing members of the Jama’at for missionary service and facilitating the religious training of Ahmadis
It is generally expected that an Ahmadi volunteer for approximately two weeks at a designated Jama’at, typically at their own expense. However, the duration may vary depending on the needs of the Jama’at and the circumstances of the volunteer
The recommendation for Waqf Ardhi is two weeks. In certain cases, depending on the needs of the Jama’at and an individual’s personal circumstances, approval may be granted.
Participants are generally expected to cover their own travel and personal expenses. The hosting Jama’at may:
- Provide meals
Offer accommodation, if available
The spirit of Waqf ‘Ardhi is to offer one’s time and resources for the service of faith, rather than to receive financial compensation
Members with knowledge of Holy Qur’an can teach Holy Qur’an (Nazirah and with translation). Members may perform Tabligh (flyer distribution, making contacts, engaging in discussions). Professional and trade specialists can assist in their area of expertise, subject to requirements of Jama’at
In 2005, Syedna Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aba) combined the Ta‘limul Qur’an and Waqf ‘Ardhi departments. This was done to strengthen both:
- Qur’anic education
- Volunteer service to the Jama’at
The combined department helps coordinate volunteers who can support both initiatives
All members of the Jama’at, men and women are eligible to participate in Waqf ‘Ardhi. Members should:
- Be in good standing with the Jama’at
Be willing to offer their time, skills, and resources to assist Jama’ats in need
There is a growing need for mature post-secondary students and professionals to participate in this initiative
